Scheduled during the European Vocational Skills Week 2023, the launch of the European Alliance for Microcredentials takes place on 25^th of October, 4-5pm CET. The launch will be hosted by the European School Heads Association (ESHA), and it is a hybrid event that has been eagerly anticipated since the Alliance opened its doors to members earlier in the summer.

Founding members of the Alliance will shed light on the significance of this initiative, while the event will also feature insights from EU institutions and vocational education and training providers. It will be a hybrid event, organised in Dubrovnik, with possibility to join online.

Micro-credentials certify the learning outcomes of short-term learning experiences, for example a short course or training. They offer a flexible, targeted way to help people develop the knowledge, skills and competences they need for their personal and professional development.

What is the European Alliance for Microcredentials about?

The Alliance is established with the mission of promoting the offer, uptake, and recognition of micro-credentials across the European Union (EU) and beyond, in the public, for profit and non-profit sectors, with special focus on formal education and the labour market.

What sets the Alliance apart is its transnational nature. Comprising an array of stakeholders from across the public, for-profit, and non-profit sectors, the Alliance is built on inclusivity and cooperation. Its primary goal is not only to promote the adoption of micro-credentials among training providers of all kinds, but also to support its members in delivering high-quality results that maximize their impact.

The Alliance’s outreach is broad and ambitious, encompassing a diverse range of potential members, including VET centres, higher education institutions, technical education providers, chambers of commerce, educational authorities, employment centres, employers, NGOs, social partners, accreditation bodies, municipalities, and regional directorates.

EU funding for micro-credentials

Through the establishment of the Alliance, the MicroVET project funded with EU funds foresees to pave better permeability between the education and training sectors and the labour market. This alignment will empower individuals with enhanced employability prospects and promote continuous reskilling and upskilling. The end result? A workforce that is better equipped to seize professional opportunities while simultaneously achieving personal growth.
